Sundown Pastoral Company was founded by Neil Statham in 1964 and is still owned & operated by the Statham Family. This successful family business own multiple properties throughout Northern NSW, Australia.
David Statham - Director
David Statham was born in Newcastle, NSW. He attended Merewether High School and graduated from Scots College in Sydney. After graduating from year 12 David began working for the company now known as Sundown Pastoral Company. At the time, Neil Statham still owned Ranbuild and David was an integral part of that company until its sale to Bluescope Steel in 2004.
David oversees all interests within the company and is heavliy involved in the Pastoral area of the business with particular interests in cattle, cotton and other cropping operations. David is the Director of Sundown Pastoral Company along with his wife and 4 sons.
Steven Moore - CFO
Steve worked as a Chartered Accountant at KPMG Peat Marwick for over 5 years in audit, and as a consultant in the financial analyst division with clients in agriculture, banking, manufacturing, oil and coal, motor vehicle, insurance, and government.
Steve then joined Colly Farms Cotton Limited where for the first 5 year period held positions including Financial Accountant and Treasurer with a role in management of the group's banking facilities and financial reporting with the group having annual revenue approaching $400 million from activities in Australia and the United States. For the next 5 years Steve held the position of General Manager - Marketing and Risk Management responsible for managing the groups exposure to commodity, currency and financial markets, was the company's representative for its FUtures Trading Licence, and was involved in the set-up of similar operating in United States. Steve was also responsible for the management of the groups cotton purchasing, logistrics, warehousing and sales operations.
Steve's current role is in overall financial management of the operations and assets of the Sundown Pastoral Company assets including marketing, commodity/currency and interest rate risk management, taxation, banking, insurances and financial reporting.
Jerome Mitchell - Pilot/IT Support
Jerome is a Pilot / IT Systems Support staff member for Sundown Pastoral Company. He commenced his employment in 2000 and currently resides on the Gold Coast. He is employed to fly company employees and family to and from farm properties around the country as well as international flights.
He currently operates a Hawker 900XP Business Jet and a Beechcraft Kingair 350 Turbo prop, based out of the Gold Coast Airport. Jerome also provides IT Support to staff on a day to day basis. Jerome works very closely to the Chairman, Mr Neil Statham and the Statham family.
Gary Lederhose - Group Accountant
Gary joined Sundown Pastoral Company in January 2007 after spending 8 years as a Senior Financial Systems COnsultant (IT Business Analyst) and prior to that working as a qualified Accountant for 19 years for various firms.
In these roles Gary managed and reported on the financial activities of up to 11 offices across AUstralia and supervised up to 30 administrative staff. As a Senior Financial Systems Consultant, Gary specialised in the delivery of the Dynamics Nav Financials Package which Sundown Currently use.
Mathew Monk - General Manager
Matthew's first position was with the CSIRO division of animal health. During this time, he worked with leading scientists on the worm kill programme for resistance of internal parasites in sheep. After a period of twelve months, Matthew moved to a technical position at the University of New England Department of Agronomy and Soil Science training in the management of research and research facilities-Glasshouse, Field Station and meteorological station. During the 7 years at UNE, he worked with leading scientists, researchers, PHD and Masters students and undergrad students in many fields covering: soil and plant nutrition, plant breeding, pasture production systems, pasture variety trials, tissue culture, hydroponics, plant propagation, laboratory analytical assessment and meteorological data collection. During the time at CSIRO and UNE, he studied externally Biological Technicians Certificate and Associate Diploma in Applied Science. In 1990, Matthew took up a position with Richardson's Agriculture as Branch manager/Agronomist opening a new branch in Guyra NSW. During a period of 12 years, he developed a research division Richotec that evaluated many products and systems for most major rural manufacturing and distribution companies in Australia and New Zealand. In this period, he initiated the High Performance Pasture system in the Northern Tablelands and further across NSW and managed the Technical services for Richardson's Agriculture. In 2003, he started a consulting business-Trifolium Agriculture sevicing clients in Australia, New Zealand and USA. In 2005, Matthew moved to Kingstown Station and took on the position of General Manager Cattle for Sundown Pastoral Co. Matthew played Rugby Union- Played for 23 seasons, coached for one year and is now a supporter of the sport. His other interests lie in fishing and watching other sports. Matthews is grateful and enjoys spending time with his loving and understanding partner and four children - 3 daughters (triplets) and a son.
Nick Gillingham - Cropping Manager
Nick Gillingham was appointed to the position of Farm Agronomist, in July 2005, and currently holds the role of Cropping Manager at Keytah. Nick is responsible for management and strategic direction of all Sundown Pastoral Company's "Keytah" cropping operations.
Nick had previously held positions as Senior Agronomist for Landmark and Senior Agronomist for Integrated Crop Management Services. He has a Master of Agriculture, a Bachelor of Science and a Diploma of Export Management. Nick has a passion for the cotton and grains industries and enjoys challenges of working with a highly integrated and dynamic company.
I have been involved with the company since 2001 where I started working at Keytah on the cotton irrigation. I left to start a private stock and station agency in Moree. I returned to work full time for sundown in 2010 where I was responsible for the Auctionsplus sale of the breeder herd and then responsible for buying cattle for the trading operation.
Currently I'm in charge of livestock operations for all the cattle properties. I enjoy working in the beef industry and being part of a dynamic company.
